6th graders in Sra. Menefee's Spanish class and 8th graders in Sra. Sachar's class became teachers for a day. The two groups travelled to the Lower School where they taught Sra. Duncan's 6th agers and 8th agers respectively.
6th graders reviewed Animales de la Granja (Farm Animals) with the 6th agers and taught them to classify them by size - grande (big) o pequeno (small). In preparation for their lesson, 6th graders designed a lesson with three learning stations - a SMARTBoard activity, an activity with manipulatives and a computer activity. 6th agers rotated through each station. Each activity challenged he 6th agers to recall the animal names in Spanish.
8th graders introduced new Comida (Food) vocabulary to the 8th age girls. 8th graders designed a variety of mixed media lessons using PowerPoint, Quia (a site where students and teachers can create their own online educational games) and manipulatives. They presented their lessons in small groups. 8th age students practiced using the new vocabulary in complete sentences with the verbs comer (to eat) and beber (to drink) along with adjectives to descibe each food item.
We are so proud of our middle schoolers' creativity, patience, and leadership and our lower schoolers' enthusiasm and attentiveness!
